Pearson VUE publishes a pass-rate report for the Texas Department of Insurance every month, as a PDF nobody reads. We read all 44 of them, from Jan 2023 to Aug 2026, and keep this page current.
All numbers on this page are for the General Lines Life, Accident & Health exam (Pearson VUE code InsTX-LAH05, English, and InsTX-LAH25, Spanish) unless a row says otherwise. "First try" means the candidate's first sitting; "retake" means any sitting after a fail.

First-time pass rates were 59% in 2024, 57% in 2025 and 55% so far in 2026. The number of first-time candidates is also down: 16,652 in January–Aug 2026 against 18,363 in the same months of 2025 (-9%).
Only 40% of retake sittings passed in 2025. You can retake the next day and there is no limit on attempts, but the retake pass rate has sat at 37–43% every month for three years. If you did not pass, the fix is in what you study, not how soon you retest. What to change before a retake ›
47% of first-time takers passed the Life Agent exam in 2025, ten points below the combined Life, Accident & Health exam. Fewer questions does not mean easier questions. If your agency lets you choose, the broader license has the better odds and opens more products. Life Agent vs. Life & Health, side by side ›
The Spanish-language exam covers the same outline, and candidates can switch any question to English during the test. Even so, first-time pass rates are 34% (2025) and 24% (2026 so far), far below the English exam. Candidates who study in English and keep the Spanish toggle as a safety net may do better than the averages suggest; Pearson VUE does not publish data that would settle this. How the Spanish exam and the ESL extra-time form work ›
Since January 2025 the busiest month for first-time candidates was Jul 2025 (2,912) and the quietest was Dec 2025 (1,618). Summer is recruiting season for agencies; test centers fill up, so book early.

Pearson VUE's reports for January–October 2023 also list separate "OP" rows for online-proctored sittings; those rows are not included above. Online testing for Texas insurance exams has since ended; exams are taken at test centers only.
Each month Pearson VUE posts a "Texas Department of Insurance Examination Pass Rates" PDF. We download every report, read the rows for each exam code, and add the month here. The yearly figures are sums of the monthly rows, so they can differ by a few sittings from Pearson VUE's own annual summary. Nothing is estimated or modelled. Report URLs follow the pattern pearsonvue.com/content/dam/VUE/vue/en/documents/clients/tx-insurance/YYYY-MM.pdf.
In 2025, 57% of first-time takers passed the English General Lines Life, Accident & Health exam (14,923 of 26,267). Counting retakes, 50% of all sittings passed. Source: Pearson VUE monthly reports for the Texas Department of Insurance.
42,557 sittings in 2025 for the English exam, 26,267 of them first attempts. That is about 2,189 new candidates a month, with a summer peak.
The data says the opposite of what most people expect: 47% of first-time takers passed the Life Agent (life-only) exam in 2025, against 57% for the combined Life, Accident & Health exam.
40% of repeat sittings passed in 2025. Retaking without changing how you study is the most common way to fail twice.

All of the following are provisions the Texas Insurance Code requires in an individual life insurance policy EXCEPT
TIC §1101.008 requires that if age is understated, the amount payable is what the premium paid would have purchased at the correct age — the policy is adjusted, not voided, so a void-and-refund provision is not required.
